I thought this was a fun, unique board book.  We certainly have board books with lift the flaps, pull tabs, and different textures, but I can't think of any that we have read that contain gears like this.  I think infants and toddlers would love it.  Our little guy enjoyed it.  My only criticism is that some of the cranks are a little difficult for small (or even adult) fingers to turn.  I find this to be a common issue with interactive board books of all kinds, and often they loosen up with time.


Companion Craft:

1) Put together a box full of doodads.  Ours had a cut up paper towel roll, various packaging materials from our new double stroller we just put together (those yellow rubber things and the styrofoam, for instance), a cut up pipe cleaner, some spare hex keys, clothes pins, glue, scotch tape, etc.

2) Cut out a cardboard template, in the shape of a rectangle, with arm holes.  You can see our template below.  We ended up chopping off that top part, so that it can be worn rightside up or upside down without worrying about the flap hitting his neck.  Cover cardboard with a bit of aluminum foil.  Let them decorate at will. 

3) Enjoy the finished product (put your arms through the armholes and wear it like a shield).  Don't forget to talk like a robot!
