The recently released board book: Rocket Town, by Bob Logan, takes readers on a fun-filled journey with short, simple text and hip, retro style illustrations. The beginning of the book features a few opposites (big/small, up/down, fast/slow). Unusual rockets, in shapes like a shark, schoolbus, and ice cream truck (the Bibliophile's favorite) add whimsy. If I didn't know better, I would think the author might have had my family dynamic in mind when he wrote it -- for an older brother to read to a baby sister. The Bibliophile enjoyed it for the images of spaceships, and the 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-BLASTOFF countdown. His little sister loved it for the chunky, sturdy pages, and the high contrast images.
Welcome to Rocket Town / Where rockets are BIG / and rockets are small.Because the book was a family hit, I tried a few times to do a video review of the book with the two kids and I reading it. We had great fun, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to reveal that much of us to the world yet. You'll just have to trust me that we had a lot of fun reading it 6 times in a row trying to capture one read-through without someone falling down, climbing, knocking over the laptop/camera, or drooling (the 4 1/2 month old, not me). I hope your littlest Bibliophiles enjoy it as much as we did.
